Decorating with Posters
Walking home this afternoon, I started thinking about my hall way. It was nice enough as it was, however it was still a little bare. We had to knocked down a couple of walls and painted it a soft calming blue with white trim. Being quite narrow, I didn’t want to hang large pictures along the walls. I did have a couple keep sakes that needed a new spot, but I knew I could do better.
I had always like the countryside murals people had painted on their walls, although most generally look rather tacky, you do get same that are rather beautiful, but however, I really don’t care the commercially printed wall paper you can buy. They are really expensive, and extremely difficult to change if you decide you don’t like them anymore.
What I was thinking was that I can take a poster and fasten it to an old window that can be mounted on the end wall. If I choose something that is bright enough, on first glance, it will look like another window down there. Adding curtains will enhance the effect. If I do this, I think it would be nice to mount the window with hinges on one side so that the poster can be changed with the seasons. It is not necessary for the pictures to be the same scene but I think they should be regionally appropriate. I don't think a snow capped Swiss mountain scene would work on my Florida wall but a nice beach scene might.
It would be easy to buy a poster for each holiday, taking this step even further. I think my grandchildren would love to come see what Grandma has on her wall this time. Since posters are economical and they could be purchased over time, this is one decorating feature that would stay fresh for years to come.
